yes, even criminals are people that’s how human rights work
because once you stop working that way, you can make anyone into a criminal
but people say “oh it’s about criminals, so that’s ok” it’s not ok to dehumanize anyone and once you let the state dehumanize anyone, they’ll eventually come after you, too
the law does not define morality slavery was legal the holocaust was legal only allowing non-criminals to be human means you give up any and all moral authority to the state, which by design has no concept of morality
if you let criminality dehumanize people, you have rejected the very foundation of morality
